I agree with the opinions of Jon stated above. He can be hard to reach because he frequently travels on business.

That's his shop in the pictures, I've been there many times.

If that green car is an SV widebody I would be tempted to bid on it if I weren't saving up to trade in my 2017 Shelby GT350 on the 2020 GT500 that was recently revealed.

The seller of the Hemmings Caterham R300 (Worldwide Motors) seems a bit confused. He notes that the costs of parts and restoration are going up. And that is that supposed to tempt me to buy this? But he says the value of the vehicle is also going up-since they dont make these anymore. Funny, I thought last year was Caterham's biggest production year?

Yes Mike - and confusing it more is that the actual cost and parts are coming down thanks to the UK pound acting like a third world currency which is what drove Caterham to have such a banner production sales year on new cars. And with the political turmoil destined to continue I don't see that changing for 12 months or more. Perfect time to buy a new one methinks, or even a second hand one since that market is depressed by the new Caterham car market.

Moral of this story: Always do your homework and shop around before committing to buy. This reposting forum thread is littered with Ebay & Craigslist sellers who after a year (or three) are unable to sell their car because it is overpriced.

I cant understand why they cost so much when you get so little. I want that 360r on Hemmings pretty badly but $45k for a go kart is expensive. I had less than that in my Factory Five Daytona Coupe.

For just driving around on the street, you may be right, but these cars are amazing track toys. You might be able to go faster down the straight in the cobra, but the Caterham will lap you at least once and maybe more times during a typical session.

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, you can't replicate the driving experience. You drive the car, no ABS, no PSM, no traction control. just you and the car. Take one out on track and you will understand. IMO. Tom

    TNcoupe:

I find that particular Caterham pretty tempting as well. Maybe they will sell it for less, it's been there a while?

Unlike most sports/sporty cars, Caterhams hold their value reasonably well. I bought a new '08 BMW M3 for $75K and sold it 3 years later for $45K. An identical one just sold on BAT for$19K. Caterhams seem to have a residual value of between $20-35K, and up depending on spec, in spite of age, mileage, etc. So, if logic ever has a role in this type of purchase, it would be to recognize the vehicle's excellent resale value. I can say that issue made absolutely no difference to me, tho, I just had to have one!

A Caterham, or any se7en, for most owners is an emotional purchase not a rationale one. I fully intended to sell my Cat after I bought the M3. But it was the M3 that went. It just didn't generate the happiness/excitement that my Cat did (and still does) 12 years later.

I would take that challenge. Mine had 440hp, better aero, 13" 6 piston brakes and 255/315 tires and still only weighed around 2100lbs.

I understand that too. Im currently shopping for my next fun/track car. Cayman S, Evora 400, M2 Competition, Alfa 4c, of Caterham 360R. I can drive most of those in the rain. The one I cant is a true drivers car with no driver aids which I prefer

Well the 360R has been pulled from Hemmings, who bought it?
