Yes. I was wondering what other (nasty?) surprises there might be. The other people with cars/kits for sale were more forthcoming with information and just nicer to deal with. A friend just found an ad for a Miata based Locost that is documented in a build log. The workmanship looks pretty good. The engine appears to be tired but can be easily replaced. It's also close enough that I could take a long lunch and go look at it :-)

Since our esteemed Croc O'Dial is not around, maybe you didn't see that a Westfield is ending an auction on BAT tomorrow.

Wow, that car is really nice! The gated shifter is sweet, the interior is awesome, the wheels look good, the car doesn't look weird from any angle. I personally would go with a grey exterior with that red interior, but otherwise, I think the builder did a fantastic job! Good price for someone looking to have a fun mountain road car.

Slightly bored here as my whisky tasting in Dundee, Scotland is delayed. Apparently 6.30am is too early for taste testing....no idea why?

Huge kudos to Ian7 for fishing out the title story (saga?) on the above car. Its worth reading the comments on the BAT auction for educational value alone.

Thx Croc; BTW, you're just up the road from my family home town (Newtonmore) :-)
That VIN transfer may have passed the DMV, but it still sounds to me like the DMV was told that the '64 was REBUILT into the 2005 using a few of the old bits, (dubious, but frequent), not the full story that the VIN was being transferred from one complete running car to another complete running car (less legal I suspect). Doubtful that 'no longer on the road' makes it less sketchy. Nonetheless, the offense to the '64 is complete and likely irreversible :-(

Ian - you come from a gorgeous part of the world. I have always liked Scotland. In Edinburgh for the next two days.

I always thought a VIN plate transfer as was described on BAT was a Federal and a State crime.

And its exactly this type of thing that makes me never want to go near an original Lotus (or any old British car for that matter) with certain past owners and/or "stories" about its past. Other folks on this forum would do well to google the names in your posts on that BAT sale thread if they are looking to buy an old Lotus 7.
