Brightonuk. - I've been down this road many times myself and I understand your angst. But in my last 30 years of probably doing over 100 rebuilds of race and street engines, a slogan from a sign hanging in an engine shop sums it all up.

"Fast, Reliable, Cheap - Pick any two"

For me it's boiled down to Fast and Reliable. Based on that, in my experience I think double your $8k budget is a deal.
Trust me, if you're hard on your cars like I am recycling "OK" parts is a losing game. While you have it apart replace everything that is remotely questionable. Otherwise, you will be looking at a string of failures down the road. Ultimately that costs more for mediocre performance. I just spent $30k on my Caterham engine. Tell that to your wife and you'll look good : )

Ya that said anyone know where to source a new crank for a 2.0 Zetec apparently they are discontinued by Ford and none of the speed shops have one

Ended up having a forged crank made, as what was available at the time was marginal at best. Sorry I did not keep the original, cast unit. Getting to $30,000 is fairly easy to realize. Adding a Quaife sequential box has made the car rather expensive.

Raceline in UK purports to sell Zetec engines and some components. Maybe start there? In the U.S., FocusFanatics is the forum for Ford Focuses and their various iterations. Maybe ask there? They have sub-forums on Zetecs and, separately, SVT Zetecs.

I know these two from their extensive Caterham involvement. There is going to be a USA supplier with some legwork searching

Ya still looking I would rather not have to go to the UK but it may be a last resort, so another question regarding the crank in the Zetec (which is the only part that I am having issues matching up)

My Zetec block has "Ford Racing" Stamped in the block does this block or internals differentiate from a standard 2.0 Zetec?

I found this https://performanceparts.ford.com/do...ineHistory.pdf but it really does not tell me much just uses Ford Racing Parts.

As I am possibly replacing the crank is there a ford part number for a "Ford Racing block Crank" or is it just a standard one.

Everything else Rods, pistons etc can be and will be aftermarket items but I am concerned that I install HP internals I do not want to make a silly mistake on using the wrong crank

    Thanks
    Steve

    Just wanna cry
Received a call from the builder and apparently the Crank is shot due to #4 journal damage but I suspected that....bad news the #4 cylinder was scored and another cylinder had a small rust ring, bigger issues is it was already overbored so it is toast.

He said they have sourced a junk engine and will scavenge the parts from that, in addition will overbore it (20 over)apparently JE pistons have that ring size on the shelf so it should be an issue.
The good news was the head was in good shape just a slight wear with the cam journals but they were cleaned up and everything is good.

Now I have to wait at least another three weeks before it is all back together.

The wife keeps asking how much is all this costing I have no idea at this stage but I may need to sell the kids.
