View Full Version : Sunday October 30 - Milford NJ Drive
After a quiet period of no seven drives, especially after our June 2011 drive was rained out, there are a lot of options for getting the seven out before old man winter hits us.
Bruce is back in town at the end of October and so we are going to try for a drive on Sunday October 30, 2011.
Meeting point is the parking lot opposite the Ship Inn in Milford NJ. For those who do not know where this is the the website link has directions:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=The+Ship+Inn,+Milford,+NJ&sll=40.570105,-75.095329&sspn=0.007596,0.012274&ie=UTF8&hq=The+Ship+Inn,&hnear=Milford,+NJ&ll=40.570301,-75.095329&spn=0.007188,0.012274&z=16&iwloc=A (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=The+Ship+Inn,+Milford,+NJ&sll=40.570105,-75.095329&sspn=0.007596,0.012274&ie=UTF8&hq=The+Ship+Inn,&hnear=Milford,+NJ&ll=40.570301,-75.095329&spn=0.007188,0.012274&z=16&iwloc=A)
Arival time is 10am and we will leave around 30-40 minutes later once we have got our act together and finished socializing. Drive of about 1.5-2 hours will be guided by Bruce since he is a local and knows some nice roads. Following this it is lunch in the Ship Inn to taste some brews.
I can say that Bruce is in and so am I subject to the usual weather constraints. I believe Karl was a definite for the Sunday. Boxologist and Crewst were tentative.
Let's see if we can get seven sevens!

Any suggestions for the type of drive? Personally I like just a nice open road drive through some towns but we can hit the back roads of PA again. Maybe find our way to New Hope continue down to the first bridge to NJ and up that side through some back roads to Milford?

Certainly up for that. A few things to fix on the car first when back from two weeks of work travel but hopefully will get sorted.
In the calendar anyway!

I think mine is! It just chewed through the dirt at NJMP!

Bruce I think we need a mix of both - little vigorous to have some fun then a bit of a cruise along an open country road. Personally I like a bit each way for variety. I am averse to anything near New Hope as it is always a parking lot anytime I go near it. Maybe a halfway stop at Van Sants airfield to check it out?

I'm definitely going to try to keep that day open for the drive.
I grew up in New Hope and have taken my car through main street a few times. People like to stop and look, and it's generally slow moving through town. For the purpose of a drive, it's not very useful to go through main street, however it's good for attention if you want it.
If in the area, get to main street just below the town itself, and head up Village 2. The winding roads there can be fun, though obviously you can't go too fast because of the houses and people. If you then exit on the other side (Sugan Rd), take a left and you'd go past my parents' house. Honk honk.

Since it's on the 30th, anyone wearing costumes? :driving::devil:

I am wearing my business suit.
Seriously - not a real problem but Milford starts its Halloween parade at 1 pm. I am planning hopefully a way around it all. The parade won't be that long.

Its all good, had a tire get cut last Sunday. So I thought I would do some work on it while
I wait for tires. But not much is getting done.
Thanks for the offers for a lift, but I think I'll stay home and relax on my one day off.
If the Eagles game sucks, maybe I'll have to go out to the garage !!!!! LOL
Have Fun !!!!!!!

Thank You for your offer, but I think I have new tires on the way.
Don't forget the first Sat. of the month is Bucks County Exotics.
If I don't have to work I'll see you there......

Hope to see you Sunday.

I just spotted the weather forecast for Saturday evening leading into Sunday...any recommendations for snow tires for a seven.....
Stewart
well that certainly worsened from when I looked at it yesterday morning! wow - 2-4 inches of snow!
I think I would need to put the windscreen back on.
BruceBowker
10-28-2011, 06:27 AM
Seriously is there snow predicted for in Bucks and Hunterdon?
Boxologist
10-28-2011, 06:47 AM
And I will exit stage right->
As I will need to be at work Sunday night, and the temperatures will stay around freezing in the overnight, I don't think I will go play in the ice w/ the 7. Not that I haven't done it before, but across 2 states is a different story. Its a shame, but it sucks not seeing everyone this year :(

If it is freezing these roads may have ice or icy leaves. I guess we can leave it all until Saturday late to decide. At this point though it look like a sad NO
I think you are jinxing us with the weather Bruce! When are you back to Bonaire? Maybe join on the Nov 6 drive as a fall back?

I bet this is all media hype... SCDA is running their Lime Rock event tomorrow, rain, shine or flurries. Maybe I'll break out my doors for this one.
Any recommendations on tires for the cold? My options are Avon CR500s or Michelin Slicks. Unfortunately, I don't have snow tires.

You will need cable chains for your outing I do believe from the forecast from what I read.
"from the Weather Channel: How Much Snow?
Low pressure will intensify just off the East Coast on Saturday producing significant snow across the Northeast.
Below is our forecast accumulation map showing the heaviest amounts west and northwest of the I-95 corridor. In the pink shadings we could see 6 to 12 inches of heavy, wet snow. This includes cities such as Allentown, Pa., Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Worcester, Mass.
While the heaviest amounts are most likely to fall northwest of I-95, some accumulations are also possible closer to the coast along the heavily-populated I-95 corridor from near Washington, D.C. to Boston. Precipitation will start as rain in these locations, but may change over to snow. How quickly this occurs and how much snow falls is dependent on the availability of enough cold air, which is difficult to forecast early in the season. "
Have fun and be safe....weather out here in Ventura Calif. is going to be sunny and 69 to 78 degrees on Saturday depending where your at in the area.
I know I am rubbing it in but I do enjoy reading about your events on the Northeast.....wish we had more people / 7's getting to gather out here in sunny southern Calif.

If I didn't have family plans, I'd consider coming out for the AutoX Martin. Then fly back for work. I think GGPCA Alemeida has an event as well Saturday.
Westchester Sports Car Club has an autoX sunday, but I suspect that will be scrubbed as well. Maybe a snowX, but that lot is very tiny(course loops 3x).

Let's hope that it deflects and the roads are nice and dry. Do we have a snow date?
Steve -
Bucks County Exotics on the 1st Saturday... will likely be there. C3 on the 3rd Saturday, same parking lot.

I leave here Nov 1. I'll keep checking up to late tonight to see who all still wants to go.
These back roads are well shaded so I am afraid of ice.
Otherwise hope to see you guys in June.

This is nuts! We had about an inch of snow on Thursday night and they're predicting 5-10" of snow through tonight. It just started snowing here a couple of minutes ago.... :banghead:
Been snowing in new york for the last few hours.
Wonder how Karl is enjoying Lime Rock track day today?

It has been snowing here, just north of Baltimore, since early this morning. We have about 3-4 inches on the ground now. I was out last night and they had pre-treated the main roads. I hate when they do that. I won't run the car now until the roads clean off a bit. I would have liked to run with everyone tomorrow but I don't have a trailer readily available and 2.5 hours each way is too far to drive my car right now. Plus I don't have cable chains for it! :banghead:
I am looking forward to the next NJMP outing. I will be running with you guys on the track next time.

We need to cancel. Sorry. Roads are slush and will stay wet well into tomorrow. Roads are also being salted here. We have about 4 inches and still coning down.
Hope to see you all in June

I hope Karl's video cam is working, because if he was on track today in anything close to this weather, I'd love to see the carnage.:willy_nilly:
Karl, I hope you are warm, dry and safe.

Spent yesterday putting on new calipers! Rotors, bleeding etc ready for the weekend. At least had a short run to bed them in a bit. Maybe the last if this keeps up!
Still planning on the Lutus run next weekend if weather is any better though!
Text from Karl - one lap of Lime Rock then came straight in with heavy snow.

The german cars with their fancy wipers and roofs stayed out only a few laps longer. We got a replacement date in November. I need studded tires.
After a 90 mile deive with the trailer (top speeds of 20) we arrived home to no power and lots of down branches. At least I got to use the little honda generator I picked up at NJMP this summer. I even got to work in a little "I told you we'll need it" to the little woman.

Well you would of had a good time and you sure could have driven my car.
We had four sevens show up and twinpipe came down from south of the Bay area to play and several others showed up.
Lining up at the start with a Super Connie Marine in the background.
3585
Twinpipe coming across the finish line (Ingmar) Best time in his run group with a 54.721 run over .73 of a mile (3786ft long centerline distance). he also had the second fastest time of the day. FTD was 54.020 and twinpipe (Ingmar) was having fuel starvation issues with his turbo charged Miata engine powered 7 otherwise he most likely would have had the FTD.
3586
No snow in sight yesterday out here in Southern California. Temp was 84 degrees with a nice 4 to 7 kt breeze for the autocross.

Sorry for the poor quality photos but what do you expect from a phone.

Maybe we'll have to add a drive into the BCE meet. Which way do you drive to get to the meet? I could meet you on 611 somewhere, though I'm really just down Almshouse from the meet. If I can get out of the house early, maybe get in a short drive on the way to the meet. Can't think of any interesting roads though. Van Sant Airport is certainly too far north for us for the BCE meet.

the problem for me is finding the place. Five of us tryed to find it 2 weeks ago, but got
detoured around it. Still had fun !!!!

Tinicum's a mess with bridges out and now snow storm issues. Keep an eye on the weather, maybe we'll find some time to do a run up there.
