Lucas Windshield Wiper System cable drive

My Rotus had a single speed Lucas wiper motor cable drive (turned at 90 degrees which is not that efficientl) and didn't work well at all! SSSLLLOOOWWW. Plus I had to turn off the wipers at the right time to "park" them!

My car has a UK Lucas wiper system. I'm going to update to a 2 speed with park in the future. That will allow for a delay too.

I got a two speed Lucas (MG) wiper motor off ebay .. modified the '75 Toyota Wiper pull switch .. and tested using the wiring diagram below .. and I have a wiper that parks! I'm fabricating an aluminum shelf to support the motor under the dash .. so I should have some great functioning wipers soon! I also have an intermittent timing circuit to build so I can have delayed wipers too!

Got the MG (Lucas) two speed motor (with park) installed on a custom Aluminum shelf under the scuttle .. and got the mechanism tubes cut and installed .. all straight as an arrow .. should work great! I'm very happy about how this has turned out .. :)

Still have to wire in the intermittent wiper timer and momentary switch for one sweep! :)

I have wired in my intermittent timer for the occasional sweep .. and a switch for one sweep only. I'm using one toggle switch [ ON-OFF-(ON) ] to activate both of these functions.

Recently I found this article on the California Caterham Club website: Wiper Motor Fix (http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/resources/) and a Good Warning:

Sometimes your wiper motor is installed in reverse mode, which will drive your wipers through the scuttle the first time you turn them on. Before fitting the blades, validate that the knobs rotate the right way. If they do not, follow the instructions in this document.

You are welcome .. Here's a pic of my Lucas (MGB) wiper setup .. (from eBay) ...

Other pic is of the aluminum shelf on which the motor will bolt. I placed a few shims there to get the proper height. On the vertical part of the shelf I will place the interval timing circuit and a rheostat to adjust the timing.

UPDATE:

The two speed Lucas motor makes the wipers work great! Pretty peppy! :D Slow / Fast / timed-intermittent / and one sweep .. all work great! then park! :D

I expect that you will have a nice system. I have similar had Lucas wipers on 2 cars and the secrets are: fresh grease, clean electrical connections and a straight tube. It looks like you will have all three.

When I had problems with my 77 MGB daily driver they were either caused by the above or the arm disengaging from the splines. Odd how 20 year old grease and electrical connections can cause problems.
