Lime Rock SCCA HPDE (PDX) October 22nd

Incase anyone is interested MoHud SCCA is hosting a HPDE at Lime Rock on October 22nd. The track should be beautiful this time of year and they still have openings.

Yes there is a sound limit of 88 db, but if you stick a coke can in your exhaust you should be fine. I had one of these Dynatech Vortex Insert Cones (http://www.jegs.com/i/Dynatech/329/772-32520/10002/-1?parentProductId=750014) inserted after my 4-1 collector and before the muffler. It made a good bit of difference in the volume and they claim there is now power loss. My mechanic says shoving a coke can with some holes poked in it up the tailpipe will do the same thing!

Maybe now I can sneak up on Mike! :auto:

Hello All, Mohud is holding it's second PDX On Saturday October 22nd at Lime Rock Park and we still have room for students and a few instructors. What is a PDX? High performance driver education ( HPDE) with a combination of classroom instruction, in car instruction and on track driving of course. Enjoy a nice fall day at Speed on the challenging LRP course. I just sent the details for the Sound Check event by PM. Anyone else (Croc) in the NYC area who wants to test their sound levels to see if they pass the 88 dB limit is welcome.

Well, apparently Croc knows all... SCCA apparently does not approve of sevens. We are stuck in the tube frame/open wheeled category. So no Lime Rock for me in the 22nd. I did to go to Lime Rock last weekend with the PCA and had a great time.

PCA, NASA, SCDA all have no issues with sevens, I'm curious why the SCCA would be the outlier.

It is a great question Karl. I explored this past earlier this year when trying to find open dates for a track day. SCCA has banned seven type vehicles for at least 2 decades from what I was told.

I think I might bite the bullet and sign up with PCA and get qualified with them. They do have a fairly good schedule of events and they have not attacked you so I should be fairly safe.

Safety/risk management issues due to the front wheels. I had issues a couple of years ago w/ going to a HPDE thats was run by MoHud SCCA/Patroon BMWCCA because of the basic Caterham rollbar not being tall enough for me.

SCCA is more concerned w/ getting you home safe. Outrigger wheels vs a late model heavy powerful car with inexperienced drivers in one or both has a non-negliable chance of ending badly if something came together. Which of us is going to a HDPE with head and neck safety gear?

So here is the good word from the MoHud SCCA track chair. They only have 75 registrants at this point, so they may be looking for more people. It looks like they don't really want to instruct too much. Anyone interested in going? Alternatively, I am thinking about going to Summit Point with the Philly PCA that weekend. (Mike, I wish I could get two cars in my trailer!)

I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. Kevin ( the Chief instructor) and I were both heavily involved with a Street Survival event this past weekend and are just getting caught up.

We had to take a second look at the SCCA Rules for Convertibles and your comment on other Superlights/Caterhams coming to come up with a decision we feel will work for all. SCCA rules allow Street legal convertibles( Registered/insured/inspected etc--with current paperwork) . When they are not street legal, they then have to fit into one of the allowed SCCA solo or Club racing classes.

The Catherhams/Superlights do not fit into one of those categories/classes when they are not street legal. In Addition, many of the instructors we deal with have an aversion to riding in a convertible. If something happens, they want to get out alive.

So...... This is where we are at. With your experience and car preparation (safety equipment wise) --and as long as your car is currently registered etc with valid paperwork, you would be welcome at the event. For others in your club or buddies of yours --we are willing to accept them on a case by case basis. We will be looking for Experienced advanced drivers whom we do not expect to need in car instruction all day, as we do not feel we will be able to provide an instructor willing to ride all day. All the cars must have SCCA approved Roll bars and equal safety equipment on both sides ( harnesses etc)

After all the back and forth with the SCCA, I think I am going to stick with the PCA and go to Summit Point (Summit Point Circuit) that weekend. I think they still have openings if any of the DC guys can make it! I just tell them I have an air cooled flat six in the boot!!!
