How come almost all of the note-cards/papers that late-night hosts use are the same shade of light blue (Letterman, Daily Show, Colbert Report)?

Does it have to do with what is the most readable under the lighting conditions on set?

I don't know for certain (but I will ask someone who would know)...but here's my guess.

i know that guests and hosts on these shows are advised not to wear a white shirt as the drastic contrast can throw off the cameras...shows up as very "hot". So I bet it's a related thing. A friend works for ABC...I'll ask her.

Ah, didn't think of that. I bet you're right.

The golden rule - in my day at least - was never wear white or stripes... Al's right, creates hot spots for the camera.

That was very true in the first few decades of Television.
