Anyone have recommendations for an aero gas cap source?
I've seen pictures from several members (if i'm not mistaken: MightyMike & Alaskossie) with nice examples.
Are these Mocal caps, sourced from Caterham, or elsewhere?

– It will be for my S3 Birkin.

thanks

Paul,

I ordered my aero cap as an option on my Seven, and Caterham supplied it with the kit.

However, I later wanted to get extra keys for the cap, so Ben at RMSC put me directly in touch with the filler cap maker in UK.

Their website is: http://www.newton-equipment.com/

They have some nice stuff.

When you get the cap, be sure to take a pair of pliers and remove the internal spring-loaded filler flap inside the tube, before you install the cap assembly. This may improve the rate of fill, and reduce back-pressure shut-offs.

Also, be sure you orient the fixed ring that is bolted through the body panel, so that the deepest of the "scallops" around the internal rim is oriented toward the top; this will allow the filler nozzle just a little more direct route into the filler pipe.

Paul,

Ordered mine from British American Transfer. It is the Aero 300 locking cap.

You might also consider this supplier, Aircraft Spruce, as an alternative. They have several models and sizes as well as finishes:

This one doesn't lock(with a key) The lever lifts up, and then you can rotate it to remove it. The silver looking thing on the top of the cap is the air vent.

I have one on my Ultralite

Your are correct Jerry and you also need to purchase the filler neck.
My bad in stating that it locks as I did not look at it closely when I did the search of SpeedWay's site.
I live and learn all the time.

Here is one that Locks and is sold by:

Before you plunk down $264 for the AFC300B-L, check out the link I listed above. The same product is less expensive. I paid a total of $221.72 including shipping.

Must be considerable mark-up on these, since Caterham sells theirs (https://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=fuel+filler+ki t&osCsid=e159394210402add709f86a81ad5dc98), which is locking, is made by Newton, and includes the cap, ring, and neck, for £108.09 (about $170 US) plus shipping. I am sure Caterham USA sell them as well. Of course, you would have "Caterham" on your gas cap, but what the hell.

The aero I ordered to replace the stock plastic cap that came on my Cat came from Caterham but has an engraved "7" instead of "Caterham" in the area above the opening tab......otherwise, it's identical and as I recall was about the $170 price, even though it's been installed since 6/03.
