Thought I would pass this on for seven fans.....

The final results are in!

John Meyers crushed the largest group of racers (Independent Varsity) with a best time of 2:00.871 around the Full Course at Virginia International Raceway. Conditions were hot, very hot. The next best of the Independent Varsity racers was a Corvette with a lap time of 2:03.570.

There were three other Seven type cars in the event with the next fastest being a Caterham that posted a time of 2:11.774.
There were many spectacular cars that were slower than John. Imagine having a Ferarri 430 Challenge that was not able to keep up. How about a Corvette Z06?

The only cars that posted a time*faster than John was a factory Dodge Viper ACR-X, an 800 HP Dodge Challenger, a Nissan GT-R, a Porsche GT2 and a SuperFormance GT40. These were all Shop cars, ie. professionally prepared race cars. I would love to see all of them make it to the Ambush at the end of August!

Special mention must got he BMW who put an X6M SUV in the competition and ran a 2:19.518. Nice!

Congratulations to John Meyers, he is one heck of a nice guy and a great driver and builder as well.

Wow... I guess nice guys do finish on top ! Congrads John.
That V8 stalker is a rocket ship.... and John is an awesome driver.
The competition at these events is unbelievable, and no expenses are spared.
It is a real testament to John and his car.

Word from the man is that the data logger showed 170 top speed.

I saw the rest of the results and Folis Jones did a 2'19 in his Birkin and Michael Daugherty did a 2:24 in his Caterham. I know of them and their cars. What about Pete Challinor, who did a 2'11" in his '10 Caterham. Any info on Pete or his car?

Se7ens were well represented with 4 entries, just behind the most popular make the 'Vette.

Pete has a Birkin with a modded Duratec from what I remember.

With two long high speed sections, one ending in "roller coaster" and the other leading to turn one, the typical se7en is at a disadvantage at VIR. (Altho not when its top speed is 169.5 mph!).

I'd love to know what the various se7ens speeds were in the "uphill esses". I scared myself doing 110 mph in my Evo there years ago.(So much so that I sold my Evo and bought a Prius-a brief phase of sanity ending with the purchase of my Caterham). I recently saw a comment by Randy Pobst saying he hits 145 mph thru the up-hill esses in his Porsche race car. I can not imagine it,

I've only done VIR North, South, Patriot on my track bike, never the full course I guess. I could hit indicated 150 on my R6 on the front straight of VIR North....hopefully some day I'll get to run the full course w/ the seven.....but def. not w/ my EVO, too much for consumables!

Actually Pete has a Gren, Caterham DeDion with his own 250HP Dunnell Zetec. His 2:11+ was exceptional.

This was his first day at VIR ever!

Way to go Pete.

John Meyers was on fire. It was said at the awards gathering that John had the giggest b^^^s at VIR. The only car faster was a 850HP 1974 Cuda and a 600 hp Viper. (Factory supportrd)

Folis was in his quick mode with a respectable 2:19+

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

My speed thru the uphill s's was well over 120 MPH until the final blind left hander. I was consistently not doing that turn properly and losing speed down the straight before Oak Tree.

A comment about Pete Challinor's Caterham: He would have been faster if not plagued with engine problems.

I think Pete and I are both looking forward to next year. With more time on track, better lines and cooler weather a time of under 2:00 should be realistic for me.

Fun day with fun people. Thanks to all involved including Grass Roots Motorsport.

I could not figure out a good way to mount a proper front wing, continue to see the track ahead and still open the hood. The mid wing adds both front and rear downforce and is adjustable front to back. It is also in clean air for max downforce and minimum drag. After adjusting for balance it ended up about an inch to the rear of what my calculations suggested. Pretty close for a backyard dummy with only open wheel experience on circle tracks. :)
