View Full Version : 2010 Carlisle Show - Pictures Thread

Although I didn't make it this year, I found a thread [from WSCC forum (http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?)] with a TON of pictures of poorly built "tuner" cars in the parking lots surrounding the 2010 Carlisle Show. It is hard to believe some of the cars shown in the thread below entered the car show. Word of caution: no nice cars appear in the thread below.

:puke:

Now, can everyone else post pictures of the NICE CARS that attended?

Carlisle actually changed the format of their show a while back.

They used to have imports / kit cars together. Needless to say, the import crowd was... well... different.

So now, the Jap imports are no longer at Carlisle. That show actually moved somewhere else in the south. Can't remember where.

That's why now when you go, you only see kit cars, retrofits, and European clubs basically.

THESE guys are RICERS!!! here is 15 min of silliness from J. A. PAN.

Steve here (Ruadhd2). Thanks very much to Mazda and Scott for shepherding me to Carlisle in my tired Rotus. I got the mechanicals and eletricals in o.k. shape and was able to motor to the show without a problem. Great to meet the old timers. People were mostly taking pictures of the Superlite and Croc's Caterham and an MG TF. I resorted to offering to pay people 50 cent to take pictures of my car. No, seriously, people actually did take unpaid pictures of it to enter into the Ugly Betty Car Photo Contest.

So here are some car pics. Most are kits, but I took some nostalgia pics from the import areas:

Hope this link works.

I see that Jon W showed up (The excellent home made Ariel Atom look-alike).

Did he get there after I left? or just parked somewhere else in the field?

Jon with Atom Smasher got there late, but got lots of attention. When asked questions he usually quipped, "Its all on the website". OK. Thanks

Despite the concerns over the weather it was good to meet some of the USA7s members and put a face to a profile name.

I was a little disappointed that Frankn7 did not make the drive - some lame excuse about getting hair wet or not finished bonsai-ing the electrics. Mazda was probably scared he would end up on Hank's Carlisle pic link with the bonnet work done lately :jester:

Unfortunately I left before Jon made it so there are no pics of his car.

Roman's (EvilRomeo) Ultralite.

Lots of bling bling under the hood:

That engine was a magnet for the crowds. Lots of drooling enthusiasts - several people deep at one point. Note the strategically placed rag - convenient to wipe up those inevitable accidents from those men who could not control themselves.

Steve's (Ruahd2) Rotus. I was a little surprised when Mazda popped out of the passenger seat. For a moment I thought he had modified his car again.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/Carlisle%202010/DSC_2944_edited-1.jpg

Great work being done to fettle the car. Looks crappy now but I love the proposed paint plan of estoril or cobra blue with a nose stripe and band.

The fun moment of the day was helping Steve put the hood up. What a comedy. I think there were 4 of us and 30 minutes later we worked it out. And I thought my hood was a mess to assemble.

Gary's (GSLutz) very nice Birkin. I don't believe he drives it - it is too pristine. His display method was inspired - it was like displaying a blonde to Bill Clinton - no-one could resist checking out the car and more importantly the trailer.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/Carlisle%202010/DSC_2945_edited-1.jpg

Great workmanship on the trailer - I want one like that. I saw 3 people separately measuring the trailer up with tape measure (one even as Gary was trying to drive away as he left!).

For those who did not turn up here are some member photos as they participating in the ritual tall story telling (my horsepower is more than yours, etc):

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/Carlisle%202010/DSC_2948_edited-1.jpg

Right to left - Steve (Ruahd2), Roman (Evilromeo), Gary (GSLutz?), and un-named friend of Gary (sorry I forgot).

The only Lotus at the entire show was this Elite parked next to my Seven. I never met the owner unfortunately.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/Carlisle%202010/DSC_2951_edited-1.jpg

Getting token Seven treatment was this MG owner who initially parked next to the USA7s tent and then eventually under the tent.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/Carlisle%202010/DSC_2950_edited-1.jpg

Comment from the owner was that the MG club across the way did not have any room and anyway he did not know them. Poor guy spent a lonely day sitting next to his car. Lovely car - he really had done nice work on it.

There were 2 other Sevens at the show - 2 Stalkers, one with a V8 too. Very nicely presented cars and they got a lot of interest.

Now for the rest of the show - I saw none of the trailer trash that Hank posted (that he found and borrowed from the WSCC UK site...). Instead I saw lots of stuff I wanted to buy. Given the recent post, some Porsche replicas - lovely:

The trailer trash award of the day goes to these monsters:

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/Carlisle%202010/DSC_2939_edited-1.jpg

For $3000 bucks and a $500 late 90s Camaro soft top you can create a truly unique looking piece of shit. I was standing before it and the business owner thought I was admiring it. He then proceeded to show me what he thought were styling highlights of this thing. Being finished as a display car in primer is a distinctive look.

The second car on display was more finished with a top coat however for $4000 bucks and a $900 1988-1995 Thunderbird you get this:

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/Carlisle%202010/DSC_2940_edited-1.jpg

The option list was interesting - you can buy an opera window look for the rear window. I suppose it helps hide you from your friends seeing you as you drive around the neighborhood.

The trip home was fun. Around Allentown it starting bucketing rain - so it was a stop to pull off the half hood and put up the full hood. My wipers decided to initially not work (thank goodness for RainX) and then 10 miles later introduced the intermittant function - they would turn on or off as I hit bumps on the highway. Again I was reminded that I have not yet rainproofed the pedal box so I had a nice waterfall effect going on across my legs and water sloshing around the floor.

At Newark I got pulled over - not for speeding though. With the hood up and the engine working nicely, it gets warm in the car. To cool things down I did not latch down the side screens so at speed (speed limit or so) the bottom half of the sidescreens flies up and flaps like a wing letting in cool air but still leaving the clear plastic piece in place. The nice orificer did not like that - thought I was endangering the lives of innocent people. He was an older guy - asked if I was trying to copy the Flying Nun (older members will remember this TV show from the 60s). Obviously he had not seen the state of NJ roads which are atrocious and probably kill more people than my stupid sidescreens. He thought my car was a "dangerous rattletrap." I was tired so I argued a little more than I should have. The discussion was going my way until the asshole said "You know you might be just right if you used a more polite tone" My response "Yeah and pigs fly" pretty much finished my hopes of escaping there. :o That was not my finest moment - so a ticket for me.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for posting the photos as they are interesting. I like the Bugeye and the SLR (SLR is way out of my price range but I like it). I also enjoyed your commentary on the trailer trash as I also think the same way about the look and the idea :ack: .
Sorry to hear that you received a ticket and that the officer did not have a since of humor.... "Yeah and pigs fly"....only if they are in a Caterham with the doors installed and the lower halfs not connected. Oh well they are out to collect revenue to pay for their jobs so you really cannot fault the old guy. :driving:
