With a little experience in motorcycle helmets, I know that a Shoei L fits me well but looks like I have to buy my car helmet mailorder. Thinking of one of the basic Bell's. Do I have to buy two sizes and ship one back? I have 2 weeks to get one. Any help is appreciated.

Just curious - why can't you use a bike helmet in a car?

If I recall correctly the difference between SA and M helmets is their fire safety. I think SA helmets have Nomex liners and M don't.

SA helmets are also rated for multiple impacts (think roll cage in a rollover). There's more to the fire safety than the liner - the eyeports tend to be smaller on a full face SA helmet as well.
I don't have the answer for the OP - sizing is hard to do by mail order, and it seems each helmet model fits a little differently.

Ending up buying a G Force helmet, it fits the same and same size as my motorcycle helmet. Not nearly the chin protection though! Oh yeah I'm not falling off a bike. With age comes cages is true in this case.
