Also noticed he had a passenger for the last couple. If an instructor, pretty light on the instructing; if not, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

Yeah, that struck me too. I was sure that guy approaching the car towards the end was going to be an official coming over to say, "OK. You're done." But, nope. Just yank out the poor cone and sends him on his way.
