Took the 7 to a friends for winter storage a few weeks ago...

The trip did not end well. Luckly this happened only 2 block from his house and not going down the highway.

Good news, a replacement motor is on the way.

Hey-so what the H... happened to your engine already? Big hole in the side. I thot those BUSA engies were bullet proof. What's the redline, 12K? Did you try !4K?

Hopefully they are plentifull and cheaply replaced tho I am sure it's a huge PITA.

It's not a Busa motor, it is a Honda CBR 900 motor. I will hopefully know next summer what went wrong in this motor when I take it apart. My guess is the oil pump went out or I got too many G's making a left hander and pushed all the oil to one side.

Thanks for caring slngsht :)

Just been really busy at work, so forum surf time is limited. Sorry about the block.

Our FSAE car did that a few times. Never a good feeling.

The Locost racers in the UK in 750 Motor Club used these motor back in the day with just a baffle plate. So if anyone know where to get one please let me know.

Ow..thats nasty!

Educate me here, what punched that hole out? rod, piston...?

Do you plan to upgrade to a new bike motor as a result of this? Hayabusa powered maybe?

I'm betting it's a rod.

Like everyone said, it was a rod, here are a few pictures of the lower part of the rod and the block that I picked up off the street.

The replacement motor that will be going in will be the same as before, basically a 1993-1999 Honda CBR 900RR motor. Someday I would like to put a bigger CC, fuel injected motor in, but for now I just need to get it running for next summer.

In the UK there is a race class, class C in the 750 Motor Club in RGB (Road Going Bike-engined) that the spec is for carb'ed Fireblade motors.

Sorry for your loss, but at least you have all winter to get it running. I don't run baffles but run the oil level a little higher in the glass window.
Here's an idea for your Christmas list.

I was told the difference between a 900cc and 1000cc is a huge difference in drive ability because of the torque. I don't want to convince you to upgrade but unless their is a cheap spare sitting beside the car look into a liter engine.

Thanks for the link. I have contacted Andy @ http://www.abperformance.co.uk/ and hopefully will have one soon. The replacement motor arrived yesterday. My motor does not have a window, just a dip stick, but nonetheless I will run a little more oil in this motor. I e-mailed Stuart Taylor and they said and I quote "totally different - don’t go there !" When asked about going from carb'ed to fuel injected. The car budget is low, so maybe in a few years I will upgrade.
