On Monday, June 29, 2009, a number of old racers (and newbies) will load their race cars on the ferry at Catawba Island and spend two days of touring the old course and island, wining and dining, sightseeing and such. The modest activities will include painting the start-finish line with a checkerboard stripe, gathering at Heinemann’s Winery with the Four O’clock Club, a ribbon cutting ceremony, touring the course with the local car club, race cars on display on Main Street, a Farewell ‘til Next Year party and a lot of informal gatherings around the island

It sounds like a very interesting day trip. Being on a Monday means I won't be heading over though. Our friend Joy was a photographer and has a very extensive record of the races. She and her husband were club members (her husband was into racing Bugattis). She has many stories if you are interested since internet information is woefully lacking.
