Found a good sequential shift light

I searched the USA7s site and quite a few members already have sequential shift lights. I saw a Nology unit (http://www.nology.com/shiftlight.html) in powderbrake's ride, a Digital Race Electronics unit (http://www.caraddiction.co.uk/sld5.htm) in JohnCh's ride, and a slot machine (http://www.usa7s.com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=74&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1237166700) in BobDrye's ride. :D

My goal is to never take my eyes off the road and/or track. My FlatShifter paddle shift kit (http://www.quickshifters.com/images/flatshiftmaxpaddlesprolg.jpg) will be installed after I am certified road legal. The Ecliptech shift light will keep my eyes off the tachometer and the rev limiter. The final "eyes off" gadgets need to be warning lights for oil pressure, oil temp, and coolant temp. I currently have Autometer digital gauges for those, but I may need to swap out for a digital unit with peak hold/warning. Any recommendations?

What bothers me about most of these gadgets is the relatively big and clunky housing. Right now I am working on a little project to make a programmable 25-LED bargraph tach about the size of a thick pencil, i.e. 8" long and 1/2" diameter. I will try out if it works better as a linearly increasing bargraph or growing from both ends to the center.

It will be installed flush on top of the dash. Since the LEDs are extremely bright and adapt to environmental light I want them to reflect as HUD in the windscreen. Obviously that would not work with an aeroscreen.....

Still need to do some work on the embedded firmware but once I get it going I will post some pics.

I picked up this rev light but haven't installed it yet. It is designed for motorcycles and has a flexible body so it can be bent a bit to conform with whatever you are attaching it to. It has a sensor that dims the LEDs at night.

It measures 80mm x 10mm x 28mm.

I plan on attaching it to the underside of my Mirrors for Sevens wink type mirror when the windscreen is on and to the top of the dash when using the Brooklands screens.

Lights schmights when you stop going fast hit the go faster switch (shift!)
When I was racing unlimited superbike I didn't have time to look at the tach or anything - it all happens too fast - use your ears and your other senses - you will figure out when to shift without gizmos....

I installed that same shift light in my Ultralite last year and I'm very happy with it. It's easy to see in the sunlight and you can program which rpm the lights start to come on.

Thanks for the comments. I figured if I was much older and had false teeth the Busa would let me know when to shift. :D Since I'm a youngin' with a full set of teeth that don't rattle at 11,000 rpm I need gadgets to tell me when to shift.

Ditto the comments on the ShiftI. I had one in my car for 3 or 4 years now and it's absolutely brilliant!:D

I mounted mine on the scuttle above the steering wheel. My seating position puts it in sight right over the top of the wheel.

I've never used this but the one time I could of was at the track when 10 other bikes were around me and they had louder exhausts;)

I have the Nology, which only has 4 led's. The first two are green, the third is yellow, and the last is red. They are bright enough in the daylight, and I have them situated to shine in my eyes. Since the sound of the engine is the first clue, I don't mind having only four lights. When you aren't really getting on it, there are no lights to distract you, and when you are getting on it, they do serve to give you the shift points. I have the red one set close to the torque peak at about 8600 or 8700, which is a few hundred or so rpm below the rev limiter at 9000.

I use the Nology, actually a rebadged OMEX sequential. I put it in a little hobby case on the scuttle.

the OMEX shiftlight pro seems like a nice solution -- unobtrusive single red LED for shift point.
