Caterham Lowered Floors

I am looking for photos and advice on the lowered floors for a Caterham. Has anyone added this themselves? I am looking at the widsheild frame in a normal driving position and would like to lower the floors during our "downtime" weather here in Minnesota.

About 6 months ago I came across a Caterham owner's web site where he had retrofit a lowered floor with success. Unfortunately I can't find that site now! From what I remember, he ordered the lowered floor kit from Caterham and it was a fairly straight forward install.



I lowered the driver's side floor and seat in my Birkin, and it made a huge difference in visibility and comfort for me. I look through the center of the windshield now, and my head gets much less wind buffeting. My head is even below the roll bar, so hopefully a bit safer too!

Tom - thanks for the pictures they will be a great help. One question - is the cross brace in front of the seat attached to the new floor in any way?

The cross brace has an L bracket that attaches to it and then goes down to the floor.



Another thing to note, is that the way the new floor is rivited to the chassis is slightly different. The original floor was simply riveted to the bottom of the chassis. The new floor is riveted to the bottom of the inside chassis rail and to the *interior* of the outside chassis rail. The rear section is also riveted to the interior of the rail. All of this makes for a lot of rivets you have to drill out and replace. FWIW, I used sprayed some Waxoyl into the chassis tubes to both rustproof them and to prevent all those rivet heads from rattling around in there!! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/eek6.gif http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif

Thanks for posting those photos. Can you tell me if the lowered floors come with the cost of lower ground clearance? In other words, do the floor pockets project down below the bottom of the car?

Skeeler - The lowered floors do project below the bottom of the car, but they shouldn't be the lowest part of the car. I remember seeing a picture showing how far it projected below the standard floor, but I can't locate it now.
