crazy tires

OK, so I'm at the tire shop today getting some new treads on Madam's Beetle and behind the couter they have a couple of tires that I think are the silliest I have seen. I thought maybe they were for a window display, but no they were for an SUV with 26 inch rims, and the profile was just under 2 inches http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/eek6.gif I asked the guy who they were for and he just rolled his eyes and said "someone with more money than sense." Saw a 30" wheels with a rubber band tire on it when I was at SEMA last year. Tried to pick it up, but barely could. Had to be something like 120 to 150 lbs. I can't image what that would do to the ride and handling of a car or truck. They don't even look good, at least to me.

Didn't make to SEMA this year, but I wouldn't bet against someone coming up with something even bigger and more retarded.

I guess to each his own.

There is no protection from bumps and potholes, so the rims may be dented, and you loose lots of load carrying capacity with the ultra low profile tires. Load capacity is directly related to air volume in the tire.
