82 hp boost to the car from the stored energy, how?
By use of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). See here: http://www.evworld.com/syndicated/evworld_article_1160.cfm
Regenerative brakes store power in a highly efficient, dense battery pack. When you hit the "Go" button the electric motor adds the additional power. At least that's how I understood it.
Checking in on the rules as follows:
5.2.3 The maximum power, in or out, of any KERS must not exceed 60kW. (60kW = 60,000 watts. 1 HP = 746 Watts, so 60,000/746 = ~81 HP.)
Energy released from the KERS may not exceed 400kJ in any one lap.
Thanks for the link. Though I am left with more questions. 60Kw motor + Battery + controllers = 20kg now that would be amazing. The amount of power that those cables and controllers would have to handle, getting batteries to discharge that fast and not burn up ....
