Well, I have to admit they are an aquired taste, but this car seems like a very nice example.
I had a 63 Vette and felt the same way about the next generation from 68 on, yet I had a friend that bought a 68 and loved the car, guess it's horses for courses.
One point I need to ask, as these cars are pretty thin on the ground and I have never come across one:
do they drive as well as the rest, I am guessing so?
I wonder if they will ever have their day in the sun ?

I think performance and handling are on a par with Series 3.

Yeah that's what I would think.

I'd have to agree on the looks of the Series 4...I just don't see myself ever owning one because I prefer the classic looks of the S1-S3 models.

I did visit a car collection on Cape Cod owned by a gentleman named Bill who has a S2 and a S4 Lotus Seven among his collection of 50-60 mostly British cars. We got to talking about the differences between the two and although he prefers the looks of the earlier model, he thought that the S4 was the better driver. I don't remember the exact details but I could have sworn he thought the handling was better, the extra power of the twin cam motor in the S4 probably didn't hurt, and I'm sure he mentioned that the extra room in the interior was a benefit as well.

Here's a link to his collection: http://www.toadhallcars.com/default.asp

"Bruce, did you see where they put the 2 driving lights on the 65, I never saw that before " *** - I think I have seen that before, but I can't remember where...probably on the SimpleSevens site. If I'm not mistaken, the two objects mounted to the grill on his S2 were badges not driving lights. I could be wrong.... :)

They might be cold but I would bet they would not pass it up if it was given to them for a test drive or to keep. I know I wouldn't even though I think the series 4's require a period of time to grow on one.

rjontzen - Series 4's are still cooler than 99.9% of the cars on the road today, but given a choice I'll take a S1-S3. Besides, a Series 4 is a REAL Lotus, but my Birkin is just a replica! :)

How many of us here looked hot in the 1970s like the S4? Its a matter of perspective - who has the memories (or pictures ;) ) of themselves with sideburns, wide collars, flares, or heaven forbid the safari suit. Hey it seemed like a good idea at the time! Its sorta the same for the S4. Also it does not look that bad when you are inside it driving it and having fun! :)

well i gues it is an acquired taste..as i wanted a 3 but they had already stopped making them so i went for the latest and greatest ....at the time. I still think the 3's are awesome but i certaily wouldn't give up the view from the drivers seat. And the one for sale looks aweful nice but i'll be getting mine to look like that eventually..
