I've been working on fabricating the bracket for my cycle fenders. Simple task, except the welder is at my friend's house, etc...



So I'm on the last piece to weld for the driver side. Line everything up. Take it off the spindle and go to weld it. Right before welding, I realize I have one of the pieces backwards. To make sure I have it right, I do the whole setup again, and I still got it backward http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/cuss.gif



I shut the welder off and came home

I went back last night, and got all the welding on the driver side done. Now all I have left is drilling holes to connect the fender bracket to the spindle bracket http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/thumbsup.gif



I'm going to drive it with 1 fender for a little bit to make sure wind and bumps don't cause it to fly off.

Here you go... my first couple of welds came out crappy, so i gotta grind 'em and clean 'em up a bit.



The fender is almost true. It'll take a little leaning to get the front just right. It is slightly off, but not bad at all.



It does seem pretty stiff, but I won't know till I get her on the road. If that goes well, I'll take everything apart, sandblast and powdercoat (and I have a new lower balljoint. Not much left of the one in the pic).

How are you going to address the marks in the finish on the edges from the tooling when it comes time to powdercoat? I would think a little bondo and paint would be the better option. In fact I would probably rattle can it, as they are sure to be subject to rock chips and powdercoat is very difficult to touch-up.



I would also coat the underside/inside w/ rubberized undercoating(also available in a spray can) to lessen the sound of rocks hitting the inside of the fender. It will also provide some impact resistance if a stray piece of gravel jumps up and hits the inside of the fender, it shouldn't leave a dent.

I'm only going to powdercoat the steel brackets that connect to the upright. I'll either polish the fenders or paint them green.



I have the spray on undercoating and plan to do that on the inside of the fender.
