I recall seeing someone post recently looking for affordable data acquisition;
here's something interesting:

:crazy: I've been very impressed with my DashDaq unit so far.
I don't think the original poster mentioned price, maybe he'll jump in here and define "affordable".
The MoTeC system in my race car cost $10,000...
The DashDaq mentioned above is either $700 or $1450...
the iPhone app is a $12.95 download.

There is no monthly payment with my DashDaq :D
The iPhone has an accelerometer? That's surprising.

Most of the units that have been mentioned use the data stream for your OBDII computer. Many of us use other systems that are not compatible. When I built my 7 I could not find one system that offered all of the data that I wanted. I will say that Motec does, but at over $10,000.00 it was out of reach. I ended up with Zieitronix for their Wideband, EGT, TPS, boost pressure and an ETB Instruments DigiDash 2 that has an 80 gig hard drive with a video input and dash display. I think that the 2 systems cost about $2500.00. The Electromotive stand alone engine management system also does some data logging. I ended up following Mazda's lead and installed a monitor in the dash. Now I have more information than I can assimilate. I think that I’m going need Mazda’s help with a computer to power the display.

DashDaq works with fidgets, which are usb sensors. You can plug in external accelerometers, or external data acquisition, external GPS, etc... for data logging.

Their stuff works great... I have used a couple of their USB accelerometers and servos... true plug 'n' play. you can read accelerometer or control servo with just a few lines of code.
Or in case of DashDaq, just plug in, tell it what's connected, and start logging.
