I'd never think of speeding--it's illegal you know--http://www.usa7s.com/forum/smileys/biggrinjester.gif Well I don't have my Se7en on the road yet so all I can say is that the Highway patrol guy wasn't happy with 81 in a 55 in the Subi. Actually somewhat nasty about it.

Hehe!

Non 7 ticket:

Last time I got pulled over .. I was literally 2 minutes from the ER .. and the state trooper did not know who I was. I had to convince him that I was the ER doc and needed to get on to work. Of course it did not help that I had the Celica convertible top down and a 22" Weber Charcoal Grill in the back seat. I got off though by inviting him to come by later to the ER and get a hot dog.

I've had one in Va in the seven - 74 in a 45, but it was very downhill, honest.

I had one in the UK in my old seven (we're talking 10 years ago) - 38 in a 30, I thought that was pretty harsh.

Parts of Skyline were quite downhill too, ey? http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif

We got off easy.

I haven't gotten one in the Seven. I did have a near miss where I came zooming around a corner on a rural road around here only to see a state trooper's car coming the other direction as I exited. "Oh no, I'm hosed!" I thought. But he just put his arm out the window and gave the universal sign for "take it easy" as he drove past. [img]http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/hurray.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle">

This radar detector might be useful:

http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/products/2005/229/h229CRUiSA-o_all_LD.jpeg

One of our local Seven drivers recently installed this after "an encounter with the law" http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/cuss.gif Its a very clean looking install as the display can be dash mounted (same size as the other round guages), and the radar antenna is hidden. The bright LED gives you visible warning since you probably won't hear the audible warning in a Seven. I'm considering getting one before I regret not doing so!

Yes, here it is.....It goes into the place of the volt meter because it has also battery voltage indication (as well as ambient temperature whatever that is good for). I stuck the antenna invisibly behind the GFRP nosecone and the superbright "annunciator" LED in a small aluminum pod on top of the dash. The additional laser pickup is stuck to the headlight carrier.

Now I bet the CHP and the Sheriff are going to swith to laser guns sometimes making the whole thing alomost useless.

Nice install.

It had been years since my last ticket, so I try to not make a habit of it.

Well, that was my first speeding ticket after 34 years of driving....that means it sucks but I should not complain.

Custom installs look great .. but it is illegal to use radar detectors in Virginia. The police confiscate them. Now what would the police do to a custom install?

Not sure what they would do with an out of state custom install. If I'm not mistaken, the early Lexus models had them built in.

I don't know if a close call counts, BUT. I was doing some
consulting in Houston and had the Cobra with me. I was looking
for an address in an unknown neighborhood and was becoming a bit
frustrated so the pedal pressure and noise level was elevating. A
cop stopped me and suggested that I watch out for the car that was
tearing up the neighborhood. Guess all he saw was an old gyu in a
black mustang, (hehe). At 104k it is on it's 6th set of tires and
never had a wrench on it, knock on wood.

For those of us who unfortunately and sadly couldn't make the Skyline trip, it appears there is a great story that's not being told--sounds like it involved a 7, cops, and posted speedlimits--anyone care to talk about it? We all learned in physcology class that you need to talk about these things--it will help you get over it!!! Come on--fess up!

I decline to comment (and so should Mazda) on the grounds it may incriminate...

Perhaps we can make this a "roundtable" discussion at 7-7-7!

Were any of you in Washington state, I would recommend a really good lawyer. Me and my buddies ride motorcycles and some of us have been known to get tickets. The lawyer(s) the guys use have been known to get nasty speeding tickets thrown out completely. It costs, but its better than having the ticket on the record.

The lesson I learned today: The war on drugs is a freaking joke.

Went to court today regarding my relatively minor ticket. US District court, since it was in a national park. It turns out it's not just a traffic court. The room was full of drug arrests. Out of probably 60 people there, there were 2 speeders, 2 for suspended license and expired tags (probably didn't have insurance either), 3 couples for taking plants from the park, and THE REST were for posession http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/eek6.gif

The sad part is, EVERY one of them got off with one year probation - all charges would be dropped if not caught in 12 months. WHAT A JOKE. Not even a fine. $10 court cost http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/rolleyes5.gif

They reduced my ticket slightly - to 1 point, which I'm happy with. But I came out shaking my head. Even the judge was frustrated. There was about 6 guys in their early twenties - got caught with several different drugs as well as nitrous oxide, and the prosecutor agreed to a probation plea. The judge looked at the prosecutor and said something like "my hands are tied if you don't push harder" http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif

Oh, the 3 Korean couples who were there because they lifted ferns from the park, got NAILED. $310 each... $1860 total.

I got stopped in SF years ago in my highly messed with Alfa for noisy exhaust. The exhaust was fairly quiet, the carbs weren't and the shift point was somewhere around 10k. I invited the cop to go to the back and kinda soft pedaled then opened the hood and invited him to stand over the engine and didn't soft pedal. Noisy carb wasn't illegal only modified exhaust.

I think the induction noise vs. exhaust noise is something many folks don't get...mostly I think because of the airboxes on "modern" cars. My Superlight's side exit is pretty quiet. But the sound of air and fuel getting slurped from the foamy thing over my trumpets is LOUD.
