View Full Version : Carlisle May 16-18 Car Count

Folks-
I'm setting up this thread to serve as a car counter for Carlisle 2008.
We can get a free 20 x 20 tent if we have 25 cars show. Otherwise there's s $160 fee. I think the convenience of having a shaded place to park is worth the $ even if we have to split the fee among ourselves. I'll also check with Mazda and John to see if there's money in the club budget to cover the fee.
Carlisle runs from Friday to Sunday, but I've found that Saturday is the "big" day. If you are interested in going, please add your name, car type, and dates to this thread and I'll update the list below regularly. Keep in mind that if you are interested in going and are from out of town, that you should get a room as hotels book up fast. When I stay in town, I generally stay at the Sleep Inn or Allenberry Resort. We'll also look into a local group drive route for either Saturday or Sunday morning, or Saturday PM.
Please use this thread only to communicate your commitment to attend. Use the other thread for any other discussions.

Al/John:
Would love to join you guys this year if you don't mind having an Elise among the ranks. I met you both last year, and John, you parked your 7 behind my blue Elise in the field. I'll plan on being there to Auto-X on Sat and hang out the remainder of the day checking out the grounds. Really looking forward to it.
Let me know,

Sorry Al but I can't make it--everything to finish it up is taking a lot more time than I planned. Frustrating but you just have to keep after it. Hope all the attendees have a great time and the weather cooperates.

I like the idea of sharing the tent with the Lotus crowd. If my Seven is not finished I would be inclined to bring the Elise. And, it might be easier to get a dozen Elises and a dozen Sevens. Just a thought.

I am going to try and have the tent placed so that Lotus cars and 7's can be basically in the same place. Since they normally don't label Lotus parking area the tent will probally cause the Lotus to parking in the area anyway. So we can overlap some. But as Al stated we would like to keep things 7 related inorder to promote the club, by having other cars I can see it causing confusion.
I am in the same boat also as I will be trailering my 7 from AL, but the Erin will probally brint the Elan.

I'll be towing in Friday, van camping and leaving Saturday late afternoon.
How are you going to put all 25 cars under a 20'x20' tent, stack 'em? The Elises should go on the bottom. :jester:
I don't care who we share the tent with :grouphug:...as long as they don't play that thumping Crap music..I mean Rap music.:smash:

The tent serves as an HQ. The other cars get field space next to the tent. :boxing:
You can't stack more than a couple cars anyway, the tents are not that tall...
I'd rather see a Seven with a full cage on the bottom. More stability!

Sort of died off here, I am assuming since we have 10 who say they will be there realistically we will have 5-6 cars right? Just trying to figure out if we want the tent or not.

I'm thinking it's more realistic to get a dozen Elises and a dozen Sevens.
Count me in #11, with Seven. (Baring an act of God that rids the Seven un-drivable.)

John-
I think there is plenty of time for people to sign up. I think Mike D. had chimed in over on the Se7ens.net list that he would come. And probs Scott L. if he's around.
I don't know when the deadline for ordering a tent is, but perhaps we just take the plunge and then split the costs among the attendees and the club? Just a thought.
Again, I still think there is plenty of time. I personally don't look too far past 2 months ahead when scheduling things on my own calendar..

All,
As "the Bishop" pointed out, a few of us on the LotusTalk forum are trying to get a group together for this too. At the moment, I'm not sure if there's more than 10 people, mostly only able to go on Saturday. I'm guessing most poeple would be fine with in just combining all of the Lotus owners we can get together for the event, surely between the two groups we can pull 25 cars, and get everyone to register under one group name. I know I'd like to.
Would you guys be interested at all? The thought has been brought up on LotusTalk already too, but just recently, so no real opinions just yet. I will gladly pass on any details that ya'll would like me to.

Rich-
My only hesitation is that the USA7s Club represents the wide world of Se7ens, regardless of marque.
While the Elise and the Se7en have a lot in common, if the tent is going to be semi-sponsored by USA7s — with the intent of sharing the Se7en with newbies/future owners — then I think we should try and make it exclusively Se7ens. Just my POV, however Se
However, I'll run the idea by the other Club officers again. As I mentioned in an earlier post, there is still plenty of time before Carlisle.
If any USA7s clubbers have thoughts, please chime in.
----
On another note, I have thought it would be fun to get together with Elises, Atoms, and Furys in a "Charge of the Light Brigade" type of themed meet. Let me know what you think.

augh... in my exuberance, i didn't think about the "multiple marques" part of this. its still a thought though.
the "Charge of the Light Brigade" sounds like it could be a fun event! I'll have to hang around here a bit and see if anything else comes of it... although, with a name like that, i'll want a T-shirt :)

01-22-2008, 06:27 PM
I think that we can honorably represent the USA7s brigade by partitioning the tent. Keep all the Sevens on one side, all the Loti on the other, and use banners, streamers, signs, spotlights, music, magicians, donkeys, etc. to segregate marques.
Ask yourself, what would Colin Chapman do? One tent is definately much lighter than too.
(But if the team decides to make it a Seven only tent, I will be glad to divide the tent price by the number who show on Saturday.)

questions:
We have never been to carlisle before, but over the years have heard it's a great show.
It's about 5 hr's away from us as the 7 flies, we are curious, is there tent camping on site? is their a place to clean up a bit? if we do this we suspect we will have to do it on a budget.
Do they have RV camping on site? thats another option for us.
oh..also..is the show fun?..since our history is racing events, in the past we have found ourselves bored silly at car shows..
whats it like?

Southwind,
I would get on the Web site to find out about were to camp.
I have been going to this event for many years, and always found it to be a great time, except when it rains.
It's more than a car show, they have a nice swap meet and lots of vendors selling just about anything for a English car, and other makes.
Go and enjoy it, I think you'll be happy you went !!!
See you there !!!! Steve Novelli

If Mary's work schedule interferes it might only be one of us. :toetap: Looks like we will probably do this the old fun way, strap a tent and couple sleeping bags between the rollbars ,change of clothes and a toothbrush.
Hope it doesnt rain.

KitCat,
Spring Carlisle and Fall Carlisle are the real big events. If it were made for a car , you would have a good chance to find it at those events. I have seen parts for cars I never heard off.
The Kit Car show is alot smaller, and no waiting on the exit ramp of the PA turnpike for an hour or more, and another 40 or so to the fairgrounds. It's a 10 minute drive from the turnpike to the fairgrounds on a normal day.
Still, bring your walking shoe's, it's a BIG place !!!

Hi All, I have been to the kit car show and the big Fall shows 6 or 7 time now over the past 20 years. The Big Fall show is overpowering, miles of stuff, the Kitcar/Import show is very doable in 4-5 hour, double loop-usaully a day trip for me at 125 driving miles from the DC area.
If you are a real buyer/looker Friday is the day-all those Cosworth rods and Porsche engines get snaped up before noon on Friday, after that its leftovers and overpriced boring stuff. From the perspective of HOW MUCH? I would questimate 300 vendors of used stuff, 200 for sale cars, 100 new kit cars, 50 vendors of new stuff, 300 show cars on the field. The fall show is 10X that amount but ya gotta like 1953 Dodges-If you want a Meyers Manx or a toyota powered 7 its the kit car show. Its really a corn dog experience-its better as a buyer than as an observer, but if your hot for a Puma GT, Devlin, or Crosley Hot Shot-its the place to shop. Bring cash make a deal.

Carlisle newbies Questions:
Looking at the carlisle website, this place is huge..
and while we expect attendance to be down due to flood warnings just south of carlisle, we are guessing theres going to be allot there yet.
How do we find the USA7's contingent when we get there friday night (sat morning?)..We am sure we could drive around till we find everyone, but at 1:00 am is there a certian section that is designated already? Will we be getting a canopy? Is there a possibility of pitching our little tent behind the car?
We got the car all buttoned up, waxed and rain-x'd, we have our raingear and are looking forward to making some new stories to tell.
carlisle or bust.

Robert-
The majority of us will be rolling in on Saturday. John V. will be there on Friday, though...
There should be a large tent reserved for USA7s...but I don't know if you can get in after normal hours (vendors are allowed though).
Regarding parking/camping, you'd have to check with Carlisle...I doubt they'd let you camp on the showfield...though you could bring your car over to the campground.

I will be at the Hampton Inn if you have problems. I won't be chipper at 1AM but always willing to help a 7ner. Cell is 703-371-0245.
As far as camping you really need to check with Carlisle, I am not sure camping is allowed but I know some were camping in the parking area last year.
I will be in Carlisle by 10-1030 AM

Hi all,
We could all try channel 7 on the FRS Walkie Talkies......Come in Al, anyone there???:jester:
Sorry I couldn't resist.
I talked with them when I reserved my spot a couple months ago. I believe everyone will go through gate 3. All camping is through gate 3 then left on top of the hill, looking down over the show field. There will be a sticker for your car in your reserve packet that allows you entry/exit of gate 3 at anytime. I plan on asking where the Lotus and 7 club tent will be in the show field(they should know) and then drive down after the campsite is setup. I was told you can't camp behind your car in the show field. I'm not going to leave my car in the field all night by its lonesome.
I should be there by Friday noon. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone again.
This is the page with the maps, check out the fairgrounds map. The end of each row has a red post with letters. If it has an "N" first its up near the camping section,NORTH. If it has an "I" its Infield, between the camping and the grandstand. If it has a "C" its at the far end, near gates 5,6,7and the dyno and Kit car vendors. The single letters are between the grandstand and visitor day parking.
I hope this helps.

Andrew7/Paul B.....I totally had my radio on that day, I promise!!!
Rainy here in NJ. But looks like tomorrow will be only 50% chance of showers and clear in the am through 3 pm.
With the rain, I'm not going to get to clean my car up much...oh well. Have pity on me John V.
Planning on getting there between 7 and 8 AM (leaving home around 4:30!) on Saturday. Most of you know what I look like.

Lets see, I spent all day last Saturday cleaning my seven for a show on Sunday. In about an hour I'm going to drive it in the rain. We are a different breed!

FYI to anyone arriving late tonight. I just got off the phone with Carlisle and the indication I got was that you must be there prior to 7pm in order to get into the fairground/campgrounds.
I won't make that, so I think I'm going to drive down tomorrow instead (and because I just got home from London an hour ago!)
I PM's Robert. Hope he gets it before he's on his way and doesn't have a nasty surprise.

Okay 5 of us here today. And it seems some of us are nuts pulling into the show in the rain after driving over from Ohio. (and my boss from the last job says I am crazy). Our tent is over near the Standard of Excellence tent, drive down the center road and we are in the British section off to the left. Forcast looks so-so, I kept hearing it would be reasonably rain free tomorrow, we will see. I will be at the show as close to 7 as possible, so look forward to seeing everyone. Dress warm, it will be cool.

The car's on the trailer ....... in the garage. So much for a Friday afternoon arrival. I don't think I would have had much fun there today.
I just hope the mud isn't too deep tomorrow. We'll arrive about 9 am Sat.
