I signed up for LOG 28 early last week www.indylotus.com/log28.swf look under the "Application" heading for the registration frorm. It looks to be another great event. I have signed up for the auto-x which should be a quite the experience and am expecting to post the Slowest Time Of Day. I am particularly looking forward to:
* Visiting friends
* Seeing the cars
* Auto-x without having work the course
* Driving around the Indi track
* Showing off our Seven
* Driving the street with a bunch of race cars on the way from the staging concourse to the Indi track. I don't think it will be as much fun as driving the old Watkins Glen course but it will be close.
* The Indy museum
The hotel rooms are filling up fast. Please consider attending LOG 28 and bringing your Se7en. My wife and I are hooked after our first LOG, LOG XII back in 1992.

If anyone is interested there will be a LOG kickoff BBQ on July 31http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f200/log-28-bbq-57207/. How many USA7 members are planning on attending the LOG?

The timing is touch and go for us although we intend to be there in time. I've never quite made any of the informal pre-LOG gatherings but I've heard they are a lot of fun and laid back. Soon after the frenzy starts: trying to attend all the tech sessions, preparing for the car show, auto-X, track, touring, meeting up with friends, looking at cars, trying to find parts, trinkets and bargains at the auto-jumble...

Here is the flyer on the LOG Kickoff BBQ at Prototype Development which is about 6 or 7 minutes from the Hilton Hotel downtown Indy.

Hazel Chappman will be attendance at LOG 28! She was at the birth of the 7, I think she was working in the kitchen while the origionl plans were being drawn. More than anyone she can be considered the mother of the 7 having pushed the idea that a replacment for the VI was needed. She was at the birth of the 7, I think she was working in the kitchen while the origionl plans were being drawn.

Been quiet on the LOG front, am wondering how many 7s might be attending. Myself and one other Caterham are heading over on Thursday(Aug 31) afternoon and plan to be at the pre LOG cookout.

We will not be able to attend the Kick-off Cookout (my wife couldn't get out of work on Thursday) but we will be in town Friday morning with ours. See you there.
Is anyone else out there going to attend the track day? And is there anything we should know about the track layout (tricky corners, what to-do or not-to-do)? Can't wait!

I think we are going to have a reasonable showing of Se7ens according to the registration updates that I have been getting.
Do try to make the Cookout at Mark Scotts, near the Airport. We will be doing tech for track day and auto-x there as well.
Mark has several surprise guest stopping by his shop and should be lots of fun.
Sorry that I have not been checking the forum site for the last few days....Been pretty busy around here in Indy.
Looking forward to meet all the Se7en folks.

Wot, no update on LOG?
How many Se7ens showed? Any old folks, new folks, borrowed or blue folks?
Those not in attendance are curious....

Well okay, give me a chance to sleep. I mean I had to drive a certian Lotus indivdual back to Birmingham Monday also. I never really counted the sevens but an excellent showing would guess 10-15. 5-6 Lotus, 2 Stalkers, at least 2 WCMs, a few Birkins, a bunch of Caterhams including a CSR. Mark Scott's Super Stalker was great (pictures in members rides) and at somepoint he may talk about his autocross adventure. Really can talk for hours. I know there are some pics on Tony V's site www.lotusowners.com I have a few I may post (or hold for the next newsletter). Many USA7ners were there and I tried to chat with as many as possible. It was also mentioned that LOG 29 will be in Birmingham, AL May 28-June 1. It possibly will include a nationally sanctioned vintage race, driver schools, skid pad exercises, choice of 3-4 drives, autoX, large all makes car show......

Just counted the registration list and came up with at least 24 Se7ens at LOG 28 this year.
Phil and Patty Anderson with their '99 yellow Cat
Bill and Cheryl Baldwin with their '61 green S2
The Bankers with the yellow/ally '03 Stalker
Norm Beaver and Sally with their '79 green Cat
Kate Blizzard with her '61 Super 7
Steve and Wanda Brinkerhoff with their '06 Ultralite XR7
Keith and Janet Brown with their '66 yellow/green Super 7
Gary David with his '62 Seven
Frank and Pat Fenoglio with their '06 titanium silver Cat
Mike and Barb Gatton (Breezy7) with their green/ally '06 Cat
Steve & Jeanne Fichter with their '79 Cat
Dean and Claudia Giacopassi with their all ally '58 S1
John Gault with his '61 pepper white 7
Alfred Kitch with his '62 black/ally '62 Seven
Mark McGowan and family with their '61 silver/green 7
Tony and Melissa with their '99 purple Birkin
Steve Montgomery with his '98 Cat
Mike and Jennifer Rohaley with their '01 Cat
Mark Scott and family with their '08 orange SuperStalker
Paul and Jan Snyder with their '06 Red Ultalite S2K
Craig and Cynthia Straub with their '66 Silver/white Cat
Jack and Deanna Trip with their '63 Seven
Rich and Lisa Englehart with his '04 black Cat
John Vivianni with his green S2
All in all this was a great event with nearly 200 cars in attendance at LOG 28. As you can see, there were a good number of non-Lotus an Non-Caterhams that were in attendance. Everyone had a great time and LOG 29 should be lots of fun next year. Our own John V will have a big hand in that event.

Thanks Jack, but I know you were busy, My car was wearing its Bugatti Blue clothes for this outing. It is having the green suit cleaned right now.
I really need to start driving at these things and get less involved in the business marketing stuff. 1400 miles round trip to Carlisle drove 1 mile. 1200 miles round trip to Indy drove 2.6 miles....(guess where 2.5 of those were)

Photos from the lap around the Speedway are on www.jwwphotos.com. Click on the car clubs tab. There are several pictures of all the cars as they crossed the yard of bricks, around 1300 total pictures so it takes a while if you are looking just for 7's. Pictures from the autocross and track day will be posted on the site also. I think the Lotus 7 that we saw at Walker Racing on Friday was the nicest of the event but he has pretty good help working on his car, much better then the guy who works on mine.

Ah, the joy of owning a first class race shop. The car is like a period hot rod. Very clean and nice work, good design...
The BBQ was fun with lots to see (Lotus Indy car, Se7en, super hot Mustang, replica Ferrari). The kids making root beer floats were a gas. They did a good job too.
The Walker racing tour was amazing. Walking around the shop asking questions of the mechanics was encouraged.
The speedway is a top notch facility. The yellow shirts were out in force and very helpful. The museum is interesting. I missed the guided tour of the museum. Can anyone tell me about it? The only problem with the speaker at lunch was that he didn’t have time to tell all his stories. I would have loved to get an extra lap or two on the oval, preferably at a bit faster pace but we filled the track!
The banquette food was good and plentiful. Listening to the race mechanics talk about their experiences was fascinating. The presentation on the new Lotus cars kept my full attention. I need to scrape up some money so I can get a convertible Evora!
The auto-x was fun with a good course at a good venue. There were even some off camber turns.
The Putnam track looked like great fun. From my vantage point most everyone ran heads up and aware. There wasn’t any significant damage to anything or anyone that I heard of.
Only the drive home sucked.
John V. you definitely need to drive more. Remember: All work and no play will make John a dull boy!

LOG 28 in Indianapolis seems to have been pretty successful. Sorry that I have been so slow in getting some photos up of all the Se7ens and a Lotus 6 that made it to the event. I think I have a pic of all the Sevens except I am not sure that I got one of Dean and Claudia's beautiful series 1. I have to thank CHILL members Brian and Jeanna James for most of these great photos.
I also have to thank Mark Scott, fellow Stalker owner and owner of Prototype Development, for coming to my aid at The Putnam Park Track day. I blew an oil line just as I got out on my first session and oiled down turns 1 and 2. Mark called his shop and had Billy bring out a new oil line complete with -8 fittings. Got it installed and was able to make the second session for some laps with my wife riding with me. Sure can't beat Mobile 1 either. I did get it shut down quickly thanks to a very bright and big low oil pressure light that comes on at 20 PSI. I was at zero in an instant.
Here are photos from the Track Day, IMS and the Public Concours on Monument Circle. I have hi res versions of these if anyone wants them...just email me JBANKER AT INDY DOT RR DOT COM.
I am not 100% positive that I got the names correct or at all on some of these. Please correct me or let me know who owns which car.
All Se7ens owners should try to make it to a LOG at least once. This was our second LOG and we had a great time.

Al,
Well, it wasn't my first trackday but boy did it feel like it! Since my banger in 2005 I have lost alot in terms of driving ability. I used to be able to drive at the cars limits and at Putnam I am markedly below that level (my point-by arm got plenty of use).
On the positive side though, based on this, I am now preparing for my first kart race (since my crash) in two weeks. I know that I am not naturally a great driver and I need to be constantly behind the wheel in order to maintain a proper level. It is partially depressing to learn that you have "lost it" but as long as I have a plan to get "it" back I will keep a smile on my face.

I didn't know you had had a crash in 2005...what car? Street or road? Good to see you are even trying the karting again...I've thought about doing one of those Endurance Karting arrive and drive weekends. Maybe once my oldest is tall enough to do the family camp.

How I love the internet. Makes me wonder why I am shopping for a new camera, everyone else takes the pictures I want (well except of some of the softer things). Thanks Jack, I couldn't make it to the circle concours we were dealing with the still unresolved oil leak in the Lotus 29. (see it is a real job) Also after my Caterham spent 3-4 days in the trailer with a real Lotus I now have a bad brake light switch and in need of a new clutch slave cylinder.
Oh and how did you get photo #3, I know I read somewhere no cameras allowed on the track. :d

I had my "big one" after 12 years of karting. It happened at BeaveRun when the guy behind me forgot to use his brakes, climbed me and knocked me out temporarily (the same guy took out the flagman two weeks earlier!). I came to in time to avoid the wall and got back into the race. Unfortunately, the guy severed my brake line which I didn't figure out until I got to the next braking zone at about 60mph. I ended up crashing into the catch fencing and caught my left leg in it. My knee came up to smack me in the helmet and my leg folded back behind me. Ouch is the word. I ended up ripping out three of the four ligaments in my knee.
While the injury wasn't life threatening, it certainly caused some lifestyle changes. After two months on crutches and a wheelchair for work while two of the ligaments regenerated, it was time for the ACL surgery and some more recovery time with the crutches and wheeelchair. By the time I began rehabilitation, the leg had atrophied to the point that I didn't recognize it (no muscle mass at all). It was just over a year before I got to the point that I was not concious of the situation.
I did get back into the kart for about 4 laps in the fall of 2005 just to "get back on the horse" but I couldn't keep my leg up from the cornering forces. After this, I have really reevaluated the risk/reward ratio of karting but now that I see just how much I have lost in skill I see that I must get back into it (otherwise I should just go buy a Camry). If I cannot drive a particular car to it's limits I really don't need to be driving it.
