View Full Version : Athens7's new name/new Caterham
athens7

The car finally arrived Friday afternoon, so no more athens550. Now its athens7, and a new 2005 Caterham SV
SVT motor with Kent camshaft upgrade
5 speed box with standard 1st gear
ZF limited slip 3.92 rear
AP brake upgrade
3 pass aluminum radiator
FIA roll bar w/petty strut
race fuel filler
sump skid plate
Jet hot coated exhaust
leather seats
carbon dash/sills/stone guards
adjustable spring seats
quick release Momo steering wheel
16" wheels w/Avons
weather gear
hood bag
perspex wind deflectors
carbon side mirrors
interior insulation kit
From the first drive, one can clearly see how solid the car is, much better than my Spyder. The rear end steps out easily, but is easy to control. Much fun ahead, especially as the weather here is getting nice and cool (only 90 degrees!).
Thanks to Jeff Sloan and the guys at British Auto Specialists, and to Jim Robertson for letting me ride in his car and also for referring me to Jeff. Looking forward to blats with any willing co-conspirators.http://www.usa7s.org/aspnetforum/upload/964753258_DSC00653.JPGhttp://www.usa7s.org/aspnetforum/upload/1973465412_DSC00654.JPGhttp://www.usa7s.org/aspnetforum/upload/1560777431_DSC00655.JPGhttp://www.usa7s.org/aspnetforum/upload/1346971800_DSC00656.JPG

Looks fantastic Brad.
If you get chance, try it on smaller wheels - 13's (ideally) or 14's - big difference.

congrats. glad u got it well optioned.
i will caution u about using the perspex deflectors. they may scratch the paint on the scuttle. i will go back to using mine when i have my half doors fitted.
secondly, on ur new purchase, get as much of it "clear bra"'d as u can. 3M and Laminex make thin films that will protect ur paint. since going to sticky tyres, the rock chips on my sides have increased by several orders of magnitude. call around to ur local detail and tint places.

regarding the wind wings...I've seen guys put a little rubber bumper on the scuttle to absorb any vibration/imact of the perspex wind wing deal.

From your notes, I assume you got the 7 from Brit Auto in DFW area.
I was fortunate enough to get a test drive in your car late last year. An unexpected change in events has put me on the sidelines :banghead: (temporarily) as an owner, but that 30 minutes was all it took to set the hook.
Maybe it was destiny that brought the car to N Ga after all. Jealous, but in a good way. Congratulations. Beautiful car.
Good luck today against Steve Superior. Hang 50 on HIS a*#.

Hey - there's a few more Georga 7's than I realized - be sure and lemmie know if y'all want to come down to Tybee for a weekend - or a track day at Roebling or something - I'd be all for hanging out with your guys - (even if my 7 is considerably less shiney!)
I have no top or trailer, so my range is a bit limited (though I did drive the 7 home from Port Charlotte, FL) - but if y'all decide to do a cruise or something this direction be sure and let me know!
My better half is working on putting together another TSD rally for the local Porsche club. I think it would be a lot of fun to crash their party with a handful of 7's. Whattayall think? Prolly late fall - like around thanksgiving time.

I look forward to a run up to the dragon with you and James. .. once I get new shocks ..

Thanks for all the kind words. I'd be happy to participate in a GA blat, or a track day. I'm currently wrestling with an engine problem I've had pretty much from day 1, so I can't run the car hard until it's resolved, but as soon as it's fixed I'll be ready to go.
