and i just bought 2 mounting brackets for the odessey 680 batteries. those batteries are expensive, and with out some more empirical data from more users, i'm a little skeptical.

Did they mention somewhere how they are charged? Normal Li-Ion batteries are very finicky about the charging regime. I don't think a bog standard alternator voltage regulator (with all the wiring voltage drop) will do.
