View Full Version : So what's next? For 2008? For 2009?

No, I'm not starting to plan for ToTD, the sequel already. But I did want to share some of the thoughts people were tossing around at the Dragon.

Many people seemed excited about having another large meet up sometime in the future. The prevailing wisdom seems to be to focus on STRONG regional meets for 2008, and try to line up another multi-region/national meet for 2009.

The Dragon was mentioned as a possible venue, as was Missouri (Ozarks/St. Louis). I don't know if we'll ever get the West Coasters out for either of those, though. Gert and company will have to let us know how far East they'd be willing to drive/tow. We had people pull over 1000 mile drives (one in a Se7en) to get to 7-7-7...but I think many people were within 600 miles.

Missouri (Ozarks/St. Louis).

Oh boy! I can see a bunch of Sevens parked under the Gateway Arch.

The British car show in Fayetteville, Ar(Sept 7&8) is a great venue. I went there last year and plan of going again this year. It is a well planned event. They give you a map with lots of self guided tour roads to go on. Russ

let the dust settle from PNW, and then they'll sound off. i defeintely am along the lines of national every other year, or alternate geographic areas so the organizing load gets spread around. also, vacations that require a week or longer need longer time in advance to plan around work and other family obligations.

the Dragon was great, but i could wait 4-6 years before a LARGE 7s meet is organized there again. just my take. i thought there was talk of Minnesota or the Dakotas being some nice roads.

following up on Rob Mitchell's seconding of the canadian maritimes for a trip. yeah, i know, USA7s.

here are the dates for Targa Newfoundland over the next several years

"FUTURE TARGA NEWFOUNDLAND DATES

• 2007: September 8th - September 15th
• 2008: September 13th - September 20th
• 2009: September 12th - September 19th
• 2010: September 11th - September 18th
• 2011: September 10th - September 17th"

the dates do sort of play havok with families as they coincide with schools just entering the new year. I would not be sure if i would drive as it would 2 16hr day drives from NY. probably ship the car and fly in (2 1/2 hrs non-stop). then again i'm cheap and crazy. TNF is expensive to enter though, for those considering that route.

Keith T I think is doing it in his Miata this year.

Those dates are pretty much out for owners with school age kids...

How about meeting at a scheduled British Car Show. Bowie, Md., Richmond, Va., Carlisle, Pa. come to mind but I'm sure there are lots of others. I know that still doesn't help the folks on the left coast. Kind of short notice for this year but we could go in 2008. Don

There is a fair possibility that the Lotus Owners Gathering 29 (2009) will be held in Birmingham AL in conjunction with the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, ... The proposal was presented at LOG 27 in Snowmass CO just a bit over a week ago. It is possible USA7s could hook up and share in the fun. Certainly the se7en enthusiasts will be welcome and there will be plenty to do: motorcycle/automotive museum, car show, vintage race, auto-X, driving clinics, and track day. There is already talk of some 7’s coming from England to participate.

I was there about 4 months ago. It was fun, but I think that we could find a more intresting place for that much of a drive.

The Lotus Owner's Gathering for 2008 will be in Indianapolis July 31-Aug 4th. I have been working on this with the local Lotus Ltd. chapter (Club House for Indy Lotus Lovers) CHILL.

Check out our web site www.IndyLotus.com
Go to LOG28 and see what we have put together. Don't forget to watch the video as well. I will be bringing you more about this event later.
Penny and I went to LOG25 in St. Louis in 2005 and had a great time. Bring your Lotus and/or LSISC and have a great time in Indy.

Someone mention car shows to meet at?
there is several really top notch car shows in NE ohio..
the Austin healey club attracts about 200 cars in may, the shaker square show is popular especially with the civilian crowd.
The faterhs day show at stan hywet mansion is always great and freindly to all makes and types. There is the crawford show as well.
Of course meeting at-during a race at mid-ohio is fun. we hope to make one or so of these if the Birkin happens for us, and perhaps we might even drag the ginetta carcass around for show and tell.
it also might be fun to do a lake erie islands tour...take the ferry across to the islands? they used to race cars on the islands..We love to visit with our sailboat,,we have done it by car as well..great fun either way! what about the british reliability runs every year, they would love seeing some 7's show up.

This will be a heck of a drive, but I'm game for it. I would take a month off to drive there.

I figure If I drive from here, and place a few cones along I-70, boxologist will mow them down and beat me there :D

Maybe it could be a tour in sections with stop offs in Ohio, Colorado, Montana and wherever else is interesting along the way.

People could participate in the whole trip or just in the parts convenient or interesting to them. Local people could coordinate the part of the tour in their area.

I'll volunteer to coordinate the Colorado portion, perhaps along with Keith's help for the Western slope of the Rockies. We might even be able to include a track day and/or an autocross.
